The Tree of Life garden

Standard

To celebrate the first day of spring we started a new garden bed last Saturday. It’s part of a larger permaculture plan for the front yard designed by the fabulous Brit. The central piece, Brit designed in the shape of The Tree of Life. Soon we’ll plant veggies and flowers. It lines the front walk way into the house.

It is possible to garden in the desert. But not easy.  We began by digging down two feet. Once that dirt was removed, we began replacing it with compost and more alive soil. Some of the compost was created over the last year with thrown out kitchen scraps, chicken, sheep, and pigeon manure, and yard sticks and bits. Thanks to Sean, Gusti, Jen, Emrys, and Brit who joined house folks last Saturday to bring the Tree of Life to life. And to Helen who loaned her truck to the cause yesterday. You guys rock.

Never underestimate what one one and a pick axe can accomplish!
